Course Overview

The Level 1 Foundation Course in Community Counselling is designed as an introductory program for Christians involved in pastoral care or those seeking to begin counselling training. It provides participants with foundational knowledge about Christian and pastoral counselling, including an understanding of diverse counselling approaches, essential communication skills, and the ethical and legal issues inherent in counselling practice.

Key features of the course include:

  • Theoretical Foundations: An overview of biblical counselling models and the integration of theological, sociological, and psychological perspectives.

  • Practical Skills: Training in core counselling skills such as empathy, active listening, and effective communication, with specific tools like the SOLER checklist.

  • Reflective Practice: The use of personal learning logs, case studies, and assignments (including a book review) to encourage self-reflection and personal growth in a practical context.

Certification Criteria

In order to receive the course Certificate, you will need to complete all components of the course, including;

  1. Student Journal
  2. Book Review (800 - 1000 words from a curated list of books)
  3. Completed Learning Questionnaire
